Make War – Allies

Christians often have the idea that they want to kick their bad habits and their sin before they get their life right with God. The problem with that idea is that without the Holy Spirit giving us the power to rid ourselves of that sin, it’s IMPOSSIBLE!

13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you d put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

Romans 8:13

We have to first be controlled and led by God’s Spirit…it’s after we submit ourselves to the power and authority of God can we put sin to death.

If you want to live through the battle, you have to kill the flesh. And you can’t do that alone.

Make War – A Call to Arms

BCoop was straight nails this week on the new series at Fuse*—“Make War.”

There is an ongoing spiritual war being waged on the battlefields of our souls. Do you fight or flee?

We are called to declare an all-out war against the sin within us.

Why should I make war?
1) Jesus said to.

27 h “You have heard that it was said, i ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ 28 But I say to you thatj everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 k If your right eye l causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into m hell. 30 k And if your right hand l causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body go into m hell.

Matthew 5:27-30

It’s not about the fruit, or outward appearances or actions, but it’s about the root. Where do your actions and behaviors come from?

There is an aggressive action where we are commanded to forcefully ATTACK sin!

2) We have to fight…or DIE.

e And if your hand or your foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life crippled or lame than with two hands or two feet to be thrown into f the eternal fire.9 e And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into the f hell [1] of fire.

Matthew 18:8-9

Heaven and hell, life and death, are in the balance of the battle, and they both depend on our willingness to FIGHT or simply surrender.

3) If you are a Christian, you have NO CHOICE. Fighting is the ONLY option.

j Put to death therefore k what is earthly in you: [1] l sexual immorality, impurity, m passion, evil desire, and covetousness, n which is idolatry. 6 o On account of these the wrath of God is coming. [2]p In these you too once walked, when you were living in them. 8 But now q you must put them all away: r anger, wrath, malice, s slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. 9 t Do not lie to one another, seeing that u you have put off v the old self [3] with its practices 10 and w have put on x the new self, y which is being renewed in knowledge z after the image of a its creator.

Colossians 3:5-10

Choosing not to fight is choosing to be passive, and passivity is the choice to be steamrolled by sin day after day, never able to claim a victory over sin in Jesus.
