Today, October 31, is Reformation Day. It’s celebrated in remembrance of what God did through men who were willing to see Christ for who he was and stand up for Truth rather than tradition. Particularly of note during Reformation Day is Martin Luther, known often as the “father of the Protestant Reformation,” who is notably famous for the legendary story of his posting of his 95 Theses on the doors of the church of All Saints on October 31, 1517.
Yet, more important than honoring a man or a day, Reformation Day serves only as a reminder to Christians to stay true to the Word of God and be faithful to what God teaches mankind throughout scripture.
More important than traditions, comfort, or the actions of Martin Luther and his contemporaries, the single-most important piece of remembrance is the man of genuine Truth—that being the Son of God, Jesus Christ. In order to have Truth we have to have eyes to see it rightly, and seeing it rightly comes by God…
The way we see and view God and the world He created dictates the way our souls respond to the gospel…
Luke 11:33-36
33 d “No one after lighting a lamp puts it in a cellar or under a basket, but on a stand, so that those who enter may see the light. 34 Your eye is e the lamp of your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is full of light, but when it is f bad, your body is full of darkness. 35 e Therefore be careful lest the light in you be darkness. 36 If then your whole body is full of light, having no part dark, it will be wholly bright, g as when a lamp with its rays gives you light.”
When we see Jesus rightly, we see God rightly. When we see God rightly, we see the world He created rightly. And when we see God’s world with “healthy eyes,” we see a world starving and crying out for a soul-satisfying Truth that comes only from the man of Jesus Christ.
The way we see things with or without the lens of Christ can result in a life full of light or a life full of darkness…
…how you perceive Christ is how you will receive Christ…and how you receive Christ determines how you will relay the light of Christ to the world…
